Chot Reyes announced Gilas Pilipinas World Cup roster on Twitter

Monday, August 18, 2014

Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes have decided to stick with the original 12-man roster that won the silver medal last year in the 27th FIBA Asia Championship with the exception of 5th FIBA Asia Cup hero and Rain or Shine standout Paul Lee who will take Larry Fonacier's spot and newly naturalized player Andray Blatche who will take Marcus Douthit's spot.

He broke the news on Twitter on Monday afternoon following their 50-point loss to Ukraine in a 4-team pocket tournament in Antibes, France. Both Paul Lee and Andray Blatche didn't suit up for that game.

Our 12-man roster for the 2014 FIBA World Cup will be:

LA Tenorio PG 5'8"
Jimmy Alapag PG 5'10"
Jayson Castro PG/SG 5'10"
Paul Lee PG/SG 6'1"
Gary David SG 6'2"
Jeff Chan SG/SF 6'3"
Gabe Norwood SF/PG 6'5"
Ranidel De Ocampo SF/PF 6'5"
Marc Pingris PF 6'5"
Japeth Aguilar PF/C 6'9"
June Mar Fajardo C/PF 6'10"

Batang Gilas U18 to compete in the 2014 FIBA Asia U18 Championship

Another Philippine team is bound to compete in a FIBA sanctioned event; our Batang Gilas U18 squad is currently in Doha, Qatar to represent us in the 2014 FIBA Asia U18 Championship which will start on August 19 and end on August 28. No words yet if their games will be broadcast on TV. The team will be spearheaded by coach Jamike Jarin who also coached our U17 team that finished 15th place in the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship. Philippine basketball legend Benjie Paras is also in tow to help the team. His son, Kobe, is part of the roster and is expected to be one of our top performers when the competition starts. The Philippines is bracketed in group B with Asian powers Jordan and Korea.
